Regeneron STS, formerly known as the Westinghouse Science Talent Search, is the country's longest-running and most esteemed science research contest for high school students. Established in 1942, it aims to identify and support the nation's most promising young scientists who are working on innovative solutions to address the most pressing issues facing society.

Every participant in the Regeneron STS must adhere to the official rules of participation. These rules provide details about eligibility criteria, ethical guidelines, and regulations for conducting scientific research.

Each year, Regeneron STS scholars and finalists vie for a total of $3.1 million in prizes. The alumni of this competition have made significant contributions to the field of science and have been honored with some of the world's most prestigious science and math awards, including:

Finalists are given the opportunity to travel to Washington, D.C. for the final round of judging, where they can showcase their work to the public and interact with renowned scientists and government officials.
Every year, 2,500 high school seniors from across the United States take up the challenge of conducting independent research in science, math, or engineering and submit an entry for the Regeneron STS. The competition acknowledges 300 students as scholars and rewards their schools annually.
40 finalists are selected to travel to Washington, D.C. for the final round of judging, where they can showcase their work to the public and interact with renowned scientists and government officials.
Rules for Scientific Research
Research involving humans, vertebrate animals, cell lines or tissue, or PHBAs may require prior approval and/or documentation. The official rule book provides detailed information on this. Participants are advised to refer to Task 3 in the application and answer a series of questions to understand the requirements in each case.
