The American Association of University Women (AAUW), a nationwide body of women with academic degrees, is committed to advocating for gender equality in education, health care, professional fields, and wage parity. The Las Vegas Branch of the AAUW is proud to offer a $500 scholarship each fall semester for use in the subsequent spring semester at New Mexico Highlands University. The recipient of this award is chosen by our Scholarship Committee.
We invite applications from students who fulfill the following prerequisites:
- Applicants must be female students pursuing a full-time undergraduate degree (12 hours) OR a minimum half-time (6 hours) graduate degree.
- Applicants must be non-traditional students, either 24 years or older, OR, if younger, have children.
- Applicants must have achieved a cumulative grade point average of 3.00 for two successive semesters.
- Applicants must hail from northeastern New Mexico and must have been enrolled at NMHU for a minimum of two semesters.
Applicants are required to submit the following:
- The completed scholarship application form,
- A recent copy of their academic transcript, and
- A brief narrative outlining their educational and career aspirations, and the unique challenges they face as non-traditional female students.
