Educational Theatre Association Scholarships
Scholarship Sponsored by Educational Theatre Association
The Educational Theatre Foundation awards scholarships each year to inducted Thespians who meet the stated eligibility requirements. Applications are accepted annually from February 1 through April 1, and recipients are announced in May.
Dr. Kenny D. Hasija Scholarship
- Purpose: Established to honor the father of Broadway producer Ken Davenport and to support students from groups historically underrepresented in theatre.
- Amount: $1,000
- Number awarded each year: 1
- Eligibility: Graduating high school seniors who are Black, Indigenous, or people of color
Mark Drum Scholarship
- Purpose: Funded by donations given in honor of Thespian alumnus and teaching artist Mark Drum to assist Asian and Pacific Islander Thespians.
- Amount: $1,250
- Number awarded each year: 1
- Eligibility: Graduating high school seniors and undergraduate students enrolled at an accredited college or university who are Asian or Pacific Islander
Alan D. and Penny Lu Engelsman Scholarship
- Purpose: Created in memory of the late Alan Engelsman, former Thespian troupe director, theatre teacher, and author of theatre textbooks.
- Amount: $1,000
- Number awarded each year: 1
- Eligibility: Graduating high school seniors planning to major in theatre or a related discipline
Theatre Educators of the Future Scholarships
Future Theatre Educator Scholarship
- Purpose: Founded by Nebraska and Indiana chapter leadership with support from chapter leaders nationwide to encourage future theatre educators.
- Amount: $1,500
- Number awarded each year: 1
- Eligibility: Graduating seniors who will enroll in an accredited college or university as theatre education majors
Gai Laing Jones Theatre Education Scholarship
- Purpose: Created by a former EdTA board president to help preservice theatre educators complete their degrees.
- Amount: Up to $2,000
- Number awarded each year: 2
- Eligibility: College juniors, seniors, or graduate students pursuing a theatre education degree at an accredited college or university
Leaders of the Future Scholarships
Board of Directors & Presidents' Leadership Scholarships
- Purpose: Supported by gifts made by and in honor of past and current EdTA board members and presidents to recognize leadership.
- Amount: $1,000
- Number awarded each year: One each
- Eligibility: Graduating seniors who can demonstrate leadership ability
Christopher L. Hunt Scholarship
- Purpose: In memory of a late EdTA marketing director; supports students preparing for business-related careers.
- Amount: $1,000
- Number awarded each year: 1
- Eligibility: Graduating seniors pursuing a degree and career in business or marketing
Michael J. Peitz Leadership Scholarship
- Purpose: Established to honor a former EdTA executive director and recognize student leaders.
- Amount: $1,500
- Number awarded each year: 1
- Eligibility: Graduating seniors who can demonstrate leadership ability
For all scholarships: applicants must be inducted Thespians and meet the specific eligibility listed for each award. Applications open February 1 and close April 1 annually; winners are announced in May.
