About the scholarship
The Women’s Southern Golf Association established this scholarship fund to support deserving female golfers from the 15 southern states and the District of Columbia in pursuing four years of higher education. The WSGA first made an award in 1971 to Hollis Stacy to assist her attendance at the USGA Junior Championship; the first formal scholarship award was made in 1973 to Martha Jones of Decatur, Alabama.
Award details
- This year’s scholarship award is $4,500, with a commitment of $4,500 for each of up to three additional undergraduate years (maximum total of four years).
- Renewal for each subsequent year depends on an annual review of the recipient’s academic performance, continued interest, and financial need.
- Recipients must maintain a minimum cumulative 3.0 GPA on a 4.0 scale to continue receiving funds.
- This is an academic scholarship for graduating high school seniors who are interested in golf, not an athletic scholarship.
- Currently, awards are made to four young women each year (an additional award is added annually as a prior recipient graduates).
Administration and disbursement
The WSGA Scholarship Committee oversees the program and makes awards based on the information supplied in the application package. Scholarship payments are sent directly to the accredited college the recipient chooses: one-half at the start of the first semester and the balance after confirmation that the student has met the required GPA and has been accepted for the next semester.
