The Pennsylvania Medical Society Foundation is delighted to manage the Blair County Medical Society Medical Student Scholarship, specifically for medical students residing in Blair County. This scholarship opportunity has been made possible through a generous $50,000 donation from the Blair County Medical Society, which established this fund within the Foundation to help local students offset the expenses of attending a medical school in the U.S.

Criteria for Scholarship Candidates:

  • The candidate must be a citizen of the United States.
  • The candidate must have been a resident of Blair County, Pennsylvania for a minimum of 12 months before registering as a medical student (excluding time spent in undergraduate/graduate school in Pennsylvania).
  • The candidate must be a full-time student at a fully accredited medical school in the United States.
  • The candidate must be in their second, third, or fourth year of medical school or about to enter these years.
  • The candidate must not have previously received the Blair County Medical Society Scholarship.

Candidates must use the Scholarship Application Portal to submit the following:

  1. A fully filled out scholarship application.
  2. Two letters of reference, excluding family members, that attest to the candidate's character, interpersonal abilities, and potential as a physician. One of these letters must be from a medical school professor or a practicing physician.
  3. A letter from the candidate's medical school, on official letterhead, confirming that the candidate is a full-time second-, third-, or fourth-year medical student at that institution.
  4. An essay that discusses the candidate's reasons for choosing a medical career, personal objectives, and future plans within the medical field. (The essay should not exceed 500 words)
