Requirements for the Applicant:

  1. The applicant must be a senior student from a recognized Virginia high school or home school program.
  2. The applicant should have plans to further their education at a certified Virginia nursing school.
  3. Applicants who are applying to a Virginia community college transition program that leads to a four-year nursing degree are also eligible to apply.

Submission Requirements for the Applicant (Avoid using paper clips or staples):

  1. The applicant's signature should be on the DAR Scholarship Application Cover Sheet.
  2. Submission of the Virginia DAR Nursing Scholarship Application is required.
  3. High school grade transcripts should be included (can be submitted in a sealed envelope).
  4. The applicant should write a letter (not exceeding 500 words) outlining their career goals and explaining their interest in pursuing a nursing career.
  5. A recommendation letter from a teacher or guidance counselor is required (can be submitted in a sealed envelope).
  6. The Virginia Scholarship Financial Need form should be included (can be submitted in a sealed envelope).

Submission Guidelines:

  1. All necessary forms, transcripts, and letters should be sent in a single envelope.
  2. Applications submitted electronically will not be accepted.
  3. The award is granted based on merit and financial need.
  4. The award should be utilized in the year it was awarded.
