About the SPE Gulf Coast Section (GCS) Scholarship
- The SPE GCS Scholarship supports students preparing for careers in the energy industry.
- Awards are renewable for up to four years, providing $2,000 per semester ($4,000 per academic year).
- Continuation after the initial year requires meeting specific criteria (including GPA, full-time enrollment, and continued major); full details are available upon request.
Application structure and required completion
- The application is organized into five required sections. Every section must be finished and submitted by the deadline to be considered. These sections cover the following areas:
- Eligibility confirmation and basic personal information
- Detailed personal and academic information
- Academic achievements and records
- Extracurricular activities and leadership experience
- Interest in the energy industry, essay, and letters of recommendation
Documents to prepare and file requirements
- All supporting files must be uploaded through the online application. Acceptable formats: MS Office documents, .jpeg, or .pdf. Individual file size must be under 10 MB.
- Required attachments:
- Letters of recommendation: minimum of 2, maximum of 3. Recommenders must submit letters directly via the Kaleidoscope portal.
- High school transcript, including the fall semester of the senior year.
- SAT or ACT score report.
Basic eligibility requirements
To apply for the SPE Gulf Coast Section Annual Scholarship you must:
- Be a graduating high school senior.
- Plan to enroll next year as a college freshman studying science or engineering.
- Have a permanent address in one of the 29 counties within the SPE Gulf Coast Section.
- Be a U.S. citizen or a U.S. permanent resident.
If you do not attend a high school located in one of these 29 counties or you are not a U.S. citizen or permanent resident, you are not eligible for this SPE section scholarship. Other scholarship opportunities may be available through SPE at the international level; see http://www.spe.org/scholarships for more information.
