Helicopter Foundation International Scholarships
Scholarship Sponsored by Helicopter Association International
VAI is committed to supporting the ongoing education and training of vertical aviation pilots and mechanics/engineers through its exclusive scholarship program. This program, which is only available to VAI members, provides scholarships in areas such as aviation maintenance, commercial helicopter pilot ratings, and pilot safety.
The 2026 scholarship program commences on July 9, 2025, and will continue until November 14. Detailed information about the scholarships and the eligibility requirements are provided below.
Scholarship for Commercial Helicopter Pilot Rating
This scholarship is designed for individuals who are aiming to achieve their commercial helicopter rating. To be eligible, applicants must already possess a private pilot’s license and be currently enrolled in a commercial helicopter rating program at a Part 141 school approved by the FAA or an equivalent international institution.
Scholarship for Maintenance Technician Certificate
This scholarship is intended for individuals who are undergoing training to become aviation maintenance technicians.
Michelle North Safety Scholarship
This scholarship covers the full tuition for the recipient to participate in a safety management course. This course is part of VAI’s Elevations program (formerly known as the Professional Education Course), which is conducted annually at VERTICON.
Bill Sanderson AMT Scholarship
This scholarship provides full tuition coverage for a maintenance course offered by airframe and powerplant manufacturers.
WINCO Scholarship for Commercial Helicopter Pilot Rating
Sponsored by WINCO Powerline Services
This scholarship is awarded annually to a pilot who holds a private helicopter license and is working towards obtaining a commercial helicopter rating.
WINCO Scholarship for Maintenance Technician Certificate
Sponsored by WINCO Powerline Services
This scholarship is granted to students who are training to become aviation maintenance technicians.
