James L. Allhands Student Essay Scholarship
Scholarship Sponsored by Associated General Contractors of America
Established by the late James L. Allhands, a founding member of AGC and a renowned author of construction-related literature, the James L. Allhands Essay is an award that acknowledges a student's essay on a particular subject that contributes to the progression of technological, educational, or vocational knowledge in the construction sector.
This competition is accessible to any senior-level student enrolled in a four or five-year construction management or construction-related engineering program accredited by ABET or ACCE.
The author of the winning essay is awarded $1,000, while their faculty sponsor receives $500. Both the winner and their sponsor are extended an invitation to attend the AGC Annual Convention as guests of the Foundation.
The theme for the 2025 Allhands Essay Competition is: "The Role of Ethics in the Construction Industry".
Applications for the 2025 competition will be accepted starting July 1, with a submission deadline of November 15, 2025. The winner will be announced in February and the award will be presented at the AGC Annual Convention.
